Propagation of target species – UoM

The Germplasm Bank of the University of Malta has propagated 28 target species of Maltese flora, including 3 species of Orchidaceae. 25 species were propagated from seed while Cheirolophus crassifolius and Helichrysum melitense, endemic and critically endangered species, due to the unavailability of seeds, were propagated by cuttings. All the plants produced were used in in situ conservation interventions (translocation interventions), in degraded areas of Natura 2000 network sites.
