Integration of existing equipment with advanced technology tools
The SiMaSeed PLUS project “Safeguarding the environment and protecting the natural heritage in Sicily and Malta through the conservation of seeds and restoration of species/habitats of the Natura 2000 network”, constitutes the continuation of SiMaSeed and takes advantage of the resources and knowledge acquired with this, capitalizing on the results.
Integration of existing equipment with advanced technology tools
increase in seed collections in the germplasm banks with further accessions coming from populations of plant species of conservation interest.
Eradication of invasive alien species (Agave americana, Agave sisalana, Carpobrotus acinaciformis and Opuntia ficus-indica) in sites of the Natura 2000 network.
Propagation from seed and in situ translocation of Anthemis aeolica and Helichrysum melitense, two species at critical risk of extinction.
Culture and identification of mycorrhizal microorganisms isolated from soil samples from intervention sites
Characterization of the genetic variability of the Anthemis aeolica population present in Lisca Bianca (Panarea – Aeolian Islands).
Dissemination of the activities carried out and training of students and staff of the germplasm banks of the partners involved.
