On 19 October 2023, in the premises of the former Conservatorio delle Vergini al Borgo (via Empedocle, 58, Catania) of the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences, the final event of the SiMaSeed PLUS project was celebrated. The event involved the three project partners, representatives of local institutions, as well as takers and stakeholders. On this occasion, the results achieved by the project in the two cross-border territories (Malta and Sicily) were illustrated. In the afternoon, a guided tour of the Germplasm Bank took place and the propagation greenhouse acquired with SiMaSeed PLUS funds was inaugurated. Finally, Lucia Scuderi’s exhibition – “SEMI. La vita in attesa”, was inaugurated. The artist, with 15 watercolours, illustrated the peculiar architectures of seeds and fruits with seeds of some of the most interesting species of Sicilian flora, highlighting the traits that favour their dispersal and that allow the plants to travel.In company of Lucia Scuderi and of the researchers of the Seed Bank, the exhibition was extended until 20th October. In these two days, the many visitors (more than 250) discovered colours and structure, becoming familiar with the protagonists of the exhibition: the seeds. This twist among art and science favoured the communication with the audience who enjoyed the strong colours and the wonderful shapes of the seeds.
