Also for the 2023 edition of Sharper Night, the Germplasm Bank of the University of Catania was hosted in Piazza Università to talk and talk about the conservation and valorization of native plant genetic resources, ex situ and in situ, and the importance of phenotypic, genetic and molecular characterization of terrestrial and marine plant species.
The BGs-CT researchers illustrated all the phases of the ex situ conservation of the germplasm, from collection to long-term conservation, and its use in environmental restoration interventions, such as the strengthening of the population of Anthemis aeolica in Lisca Bianca (Panarea, Aeolian Islands) with the SiMaSeed PLUS project.
The talk at the Sharper Night, entitled “Conservation of biodiversity and environmental restoration: a journey through the UNICT germplasm bank, the marine biology and molecular biology laboratories applied to plant systems”, also involved algologists and molecular biologists of the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences and of the CNR-ISAFOM.
